Endings and Beginnings

I am happy to say that I am writing this post from Indiana. It wasn’t an easy road to get here. I had to say a lot of goodbyes and had to do a lot of work. There is nothing more depressing than an empty house. The echoing of your voice as you talk to the cat is pretty sad.

Thankfully my friends in Raleigh made the transition easier than I expected. In the final couple weeks I had a going away lunch at work. I ate out with friends and I even managed to catch a couple movies.

A particularly memorable event in the lead up to the move was the trivia championship that the River Run Club won. I was really happy we managed a win at one of my final appearances at Demarcos in North Raleigh.

I almost always run in a bandana.  On my very last night the River Run Club wore bandanas in my honor.  I was very touched.  I almost wore a baseball cap that night.  Glad I didn’t!

After all the goodbyes were said it was time to hit the road.  We first drove Chrysa up a couple weeks ago.  That trip went really smooth.  The weather was nice.  Traffic wasn’t bad and the route was good.  It ended up taking about 11 hours.

This time luck wasn’t on my side.  I hit 2 traffic jams and I had to re-route myself.  This time around it took 15 hours.

I had not eaten all day so my wonderful wife took me out for Mexican food and a frosty beer.  We went to a place called Pepe’s.  They were open late on a Sunday and the food was good.  No complaints from me.  To be honest I was just happy to see my wife and be out of the car!

Now don’t think for a second it was all heavy lifting and driving with a cat meowing for 15 hours.  Chrysa managed to be cultural during move weekend.  She took an art class at Lafayette Brewery and produced a new decoration for the house.  I really like that we are getting involved in the local community activities.  It doesn’t hurt that beer was available.  That’s my kind of art class!
